Ghazal Javed- A Renowned Muppeteer

Ghazal Javed, an awesome muppeteer behind the Gali Gali Sim Sim’s Chamki explicitly believes that every child should have the opportunity. She expresses “simply helping children in just realizing their dream without giving them infrastructure is actually making them handicap. Therefore, it is important to create opportunities for such children so that they can realize their dreams into reality."

A History Honours graduate from Delhi University loves to work for the society especially for women and children and by being associated with Sesame Workshop India, her all efforts have been dedicated for making the real difference in the lives of children and women.

This small town girl is associated with this magical world of puppetry for a decade now. She was just 19 when she stepped into this beautiful field and thus she believes that fate has chosen her for this art form as she had never done puppetry before .With time she has learnt and mastered the skill of muppetry and is now a renowned muppeteer.

Powered by the passion to make the world a better place, Ghazal always tries to create opportunities for children and women, therefore every year she conducts puppetry and workshops in conflicts areas of Jammu & Kashmir.

Ghazal is also an Assistant Director in film industry, Mumbai. She has worked with many industry stalwarts like Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bharadwaj and Meghna Gulzar. She is also a trained odissi dancer and has learnt jazz and contemporary dance forms. Ghazal has also co-produced and directed ‘Funda Matlab Piddu Bola’ for TV Today Network and has worked in an online channel called TeeHee Town for Puppet studio.

Six years old Chamki to be precise Ghazal has shared the stage with many eminent personalities at various international conferences, workshops and festivals. Ghazal attended Women Deliver Global Conference 2016 at Denmark as a guest speaker and presented her views on girl’s education and equality in India. Chamki was the star at every session of WD2016 and it also covered other areas like water, sanitation and hygiene, women rights etc.

She also got the chance to participate in Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2016 as Sesame Workshop was invited to be part of the Cannes Lions Health panel. Chamki joined UNICEF’s Deepa Grover and Harvard Center’s AI Race and impressed all at the discussion hosted by UNICEF at Cannes Festival. On International Women’s day 2017, Ghazal was invited by Procter Gamble to share her views on gender equality. This girl with lot of passion and strong ideologies was able to steal the show at these various international events.

This young artist has earned number of  awards for her hardwork and determination like Gold Plaque Award at the Hague Film Festival for Chamki Karate Arc and Special Jury award at the Paryavaran film festival for PAUDHE KA RAHASYA in which Chamki was a protagonist. Ghazal has just completed working with Meghna Gulzar on her upcoming film by Dharma production and is also all set for season 10 of Gali Gali Sim Sim. We wish her all the success in her upcoming assignments and workshops.
