Things went sour between Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the BJP-led central government ever since the 2018 Union Budget was released. Naidu and his party are mad that the Centre overlooked their demand to grant Andhra Pradesh the Special Category Status'.

In protest, the TDP has quit the NDA alliance, while two of its ministers resigned from PM Modi's cabinet.
